Inquilinxs Unidxs Por Justicia is excited to present a new housing report, Disparate Cities. The report analyzes housing inequality in Minneapolis and explores solution to the housing crisis that renters are living in the city

Last week, Referee Jason T. Hutchison issued an order in the case of IX of Powderhorn Park vs. Stephen Frenz, the Apartment Shop, LLC and Equity Residential Holdings, LLC. I am a co-founder of Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia, which worked with the tenants and with IX of Powderhorn Park to bring the case court.

In late 2015, Maribel* was calling Inquilinx Unidxs por Justicia on a weekly basis. The temperature in her apartment, on the basement floor of her building, was so low that her two small girls had to wear their winter jackets to bed.

The ongoing court saga which has recently been covered by this paper demonstrates the lack of oversight Minneapolis Regulatory Services exercises over rental businesses, while bringing to light the structural barriers, economic realities, and racial injustices renters face when trying to meet their most basic housing needs.

My wife, our three children, and I have lived in the St. Paul area for nearly 30 years. We lived in St. Paul for 5 years; Little Canada for 15 years and Roseville for 10 years. Our housing has always been modest, but livable.

Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia is in full support of the Defend Glendale struggle. At its heart their fight embodies everything we want to see in a city; sustainable diverse communities that give life to Minneapolis.

On Saturday, over 100 members of Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia (IX) and supporters gathered in the basement of Bethany Lutheran Church for our first-ever fundraiser.

Mid-summer 2015, a woman living in 3057 14th Ave. S. contacted me while I was working at the Lyndale Neighborhood Association. Her story was shocking:

Who are your neighbors? Maybe they’re an older couple who has grown-up children, a well kept garden, and a friendly word when you see each other. Maybe they’re a young family who throws bonfires that end at a reasonable hour, occasionally shovel your sidewalk, and seem to live life at a full sprint.
